Frequently Asked Questions for Veterans

Am I eligible for DVA-funded home care services?

Eligibility depends on your DVA entitlements and individual circumstances. If you’re unsure, our team can help you understand your options and guide you through the process.

You can also visit the DVA website directly here.

What is the difference between DVA and VHC funding?

Veteran Home Care (VHC) is a program funded by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) that provides low-level practical support to help eligible veterans and war widows/widowers remain independent at home. This may include assistance with everyday tasks such as domestic support, personal care, respite, gardening, and basic home maintenance.

In comparison, DVA-funded services can cover a broader range of supports depending on a person’s needs and entitlements, including community nursing, allied health services, rehabilitation, transport, and other clinical or complex care supports. Both programs are designed to help veterans maintain their independence, wellbeing, and quality of life at home.

Can family members be involved in care planning?

Absolutely. With your consent, we encourage family members and support networks to be involved in developing a care plan that reflects your needs and preferences.

Do you offer services beyond DVA and VHC funding?

Yes. We also provide private home care services for veterans who need additional support or who are not eligible for government-funded programs.

Need a New Care Provider? Here’s How to Switch

If your current care no longer feels right, changing providers can help you access the support, reliability, and service you deserve.

1. Find a New Provider

Start by researching and choosing a provider that better suits your needs, preferences, and level of support with availability to take you on.

2. Notify Your Current Provider

Let your existing provider know you intend to change and review any required notice periods or exit steps (usually 2 weeks).

3. Transfer Your Care

Contact My Aged Care to request your referral code for changing providers, then give this code to your new provider when setting up your new agreement.
